Chau Tau

Chau Tau is located between Sheung Shui and Mai Po, east of Lok Ma Chau. This is a good place for Chinese Francolin, Savannah Nightjar, Lesser Coucal and Bonelli's Eagle; there is a possibility of Eagle Owl too, which has been seen in April in recent years. It is presumably resident but April is the only month people visit the place. The nightjars sometimes fly up and down the valley in the spring and summer, calling, when they can be quite visible. (after Woodward and Carey 1996)

Transportation is convenient. The site can be approached from Mai Po or Sheung Shui by taking a taxi, bus no. 76K or minibus no. 17.
