Kam Tin

Located to the east of Yuen Long, this area consists of disused fields, with a polluted river, farmland and a few fish ponds, a patch favoured by feral water buffaloes. The site is interspersed with a limited area of open grass, which is attractive to pipits, wagtails and other rarities. Unfortunately the site has undergoing rapid change in recent years from property and infrastructure developments.

Special species: Grey-headed Lapwing*, Richard's Pipit, Greater Painted-snipe*, Common Starling, Oriental Pratincole*, Common Myna
Suggested time: 2 hours at the site
Transportation: The best bird watching location is the area between Sha Po Village, Shui Tau and Shui Mei Village. It can be accessed by taking bus number 64 from Yuen Long to Tai Po; get off at Mung Yeung Public School. There is a narrow road on the right hand side of the school leading to the buffalo fields once you have crossed the drainage channel.

* The species marked with an asterisk (*) are more difficult to find.
