Tai Long Wan and Sai Kung Peninsula

Take the KCR to the University Station (Ma Lui Shui) and board the Tolo Harbour ferry which leaves at 8:30am. Leave the ferry at Chek Keng and follow the good path (Maclehose Trail) to Tai Long Wan where there is a magnificient but unguarded beach, climbi ng Sharp Peak en route if you wish. Return to Chek Keng to catch the late afternoon ferry. Alternatively, the area can be approached on foot overland from Pak Tam Chung (bus terminus and road head) through the magnificent Sai Kung East Country Park.

This area is particularly good during migrations, especially for raptors, but the habitat is limited so the number of species seen tends to be restricted. The habitat is a mixture of grassy hillsides, wooded hills, abandoned paddies, mature sand dunes, a nd salt pans which have become a freshwater marsh. The area also holds Wild Pigs and Hong Kong's largest ever Burmese Python was trapped here. The scenery is superb.
