Three species of terns come to breed in Hong Kong waters every summer. Within the three to four months of the season, they will pair up, lay eggs and raise a family before returning to the oceans by early September. They have to endure natural changes in habitat, poor weather, predator attacks as well as disturbance by human activities to complete the breeding cycle. This lecture will present the ecology and behaviour of the three species in the form of life stories. Ways to improve current conservation measures will also be discussed.
