Dear Geoff
Thanks for your comments.
For more details of bird flocks recorded in Shing Mun Country Park:
From Nov 08 to Jul 09, 63 bird flocks were recorded and marked during the surveys.
17 were large size.
20 were median size
26 were small size.
Species composition is as follows:
29 were mixed species flock, the most dominant species in the mixed species flock was Japanese White-eye.
34 were single species flock, Chinese Bulbul and Japanese White-eye were the most accounted single bird flocks. Other single species flocks were Greater Necklaced Laughingthrush, Grey-chinned Minivet, Cattle Egret, Striated Yuhina and Olive-backed Pipit, but not often counted.
Also, please see the first attempt of the combined map for finding the relationship between habitat and bird flocks. For transect 4, slope and a small stream can be found there. Transect 8 is mature ‘fung shui’ wood.
Bird flocks especially large size, were often recorded from transect 1 to 5 and 8 during winter 2008/09.
