I'd be interested to know why this is good news. Does this mean it is suitable for digiscoping?

Dear Cgeoff,

As a Nikon DSLR user, it is a god news.

Referring to Nikon web:

The FT1 mount adapter allows NIKKOR F mount lenses to be used with Nikon 1 cameras equipped with a Nikon 1 mount. The angle of view of an F mount lens mounted on the FT1 is equivalent to that of a 35mm format lens with a focal length about 2.7 x longer.

For example:

70 - 300mm lens will extend to 189 - 810mm without any influence on the aperture.

Sure the zoom range is good for photo taking for the birds.

For more detail, please visit Nikon web site.

Thank you !

Interested in knowing how V1 and its 10-30mm zoom lens can be coupled to a fieldscope eyepiece for digiscoping purposes.

For those using the universal adaptor, such as the one from Swarovski, operating the manual zoom of the 10-30mm is much easier.

If not, then each change on focal length will become pretty troublesome. Probably, one has to remove the adaptor, change the focal length and install the adaptor again before shooting.

I have not bought any V1 and 10-30mm and seeing the larger sensor it provides as well as the less likelihood of vignetting with the use of the 10-30mm on the fieldscope, I am nearly tempted.

I would be grateful if users of the two gear, V1 and 10-30mm, can shed light on how they couple the lens to the eyepiece.

Big big thanks for any sharing.

Regards,
Peter

See the following thread,  this is an analogy product that Hong Kong technician made 2 years ago for the micro 4/3 system.

Here is the link to to my photo test with my Nikon V1 + FT1 lens adaptor + 500/4 at Mai Po 24th Dec 2011.

The focusing speed is better than my expectation but far behind my D3S.

This shows good potential to replace digiscoping with the 500/4.

3rd test of Nikon 1 V1 + FT1 lens adaptor + 1.4x + 500/4 = 1890mm
Photos looks softer and focus are slower if used 1.4 converter but it is acceptable.
All photos took at Mai PO 7th Jan 2012
The most interesting is a very very big nest that I hadn't saw before.
Wishes any C Hing can teach me.
Thanks !
Happy New Year.
