It's difficult to tell from the photos but it looks like this is an Upland Pipit (based on structure and what can be seen of markings). Behaviour is also typical for this species, which seems to prefer singing from rocks. The site is also suitable. Do you remember what the song was like?

Agree, I always find Upland Pipit have a very distinctive structure which differs from other pipits. Was the call "dit deeeeeee, dit deeeeee"??
