immature male White-rumped Shama at north Kowloon hills

An immature male White-rumped Shama was found foraging with other woodland species in mix-species bird flock (Grey-cheeked Fulvetta, Blue-winged Minla, Rufous-capped Babbler, Mountain Tailorbird, Goodsoni’s Warbler and Pallas’s Leaf Warbler) at north Kowloon hills.
The reason to id it as immature male by bluish upperpart including head, mantle & tail (grayish in female & blackish in male) and washed-out orange-brown underpart (dull rufous-brown in male & female similiar to immature). Feather condition is very good.

Recent visits to Shing Mun and Kowloon Hills areas, wintering influx of turdidae (thrushes, robins & restarts) was apparent. Relationship between influx and this bird (considered it as wild bird) is controversial, I think. The natural distribution of it is in tropical area at Yunnan, Guangxi and Hainan in China. This species was considered as escaped species (captive origin, a popular caged species in the past). May be, just imagine, several hundred years ago, it was originally bred in HK but eventually extinct due to deforestation. Who know …
