Unusual curlew at Mai Po

Unusual curlew at Mai Po

Among the curlew flock at Mai Po today I noticed one bird which stood out noticeably from the rest in flight through having much less white on the rump. It also seemed slightly darker on the underwing than the other birds.

I wondered whether this was a vagrant of the nominate (arquata) race of Eurasian Curlew - most birds here are the orientalis race.

Unfortunately I kept loosing the bird among th rest of the flock so I don't have any more details. It would be interesting to know if anyone else has seen this bird and has any more details to help identify it.
