... Grey-backed Thrush? ...

... Grey-backed Thrush? ...

Hi all,

I would like to ask for opinions on the thrush attached. Persoanlly thought it's a Grey-back Thrush, however I have no field experience with the species (and it has never been recorded in Thailand before!) so you guys here would provide helpful opinions since the species in question is rather common in HK.

Another possibility is an aberrant 1st-winter male Black-breasted Thrush.

Thanks!

Thanks all for the response.

I agree with ajohn that the tone of grey hue on the upperparts is darker than noted in Grey-backed Thrush posted in OBI.  I looked through the description of both species (T. hortulorum vs T. dissimilis) in Clement's Thrushes of the World and found that the thrush in question would not fit immature (aka 1st-winter) male Black-breasted. Though, the book does not have an illustration of the immature (subadult) plumage of the latter species.

This sighting with photos has been submitted for consideration by Thailand Bird Records Committee. Will see what is the decision.
