Feeding habitats within the radius of 2 km of the nesting colony are the most critical. This rule also applies to the Tai Tong colony. Unlikely the colony can coexist with the new plan if there is a drastic conversion of farmlands and lowland streams to urbanized areas.

The HKBWS is suggested undertaking a short study of the use of feeding habitats by egrets and herons nesting at Tai Tong colony in the 2013 breeding season. This study can show the critical feeding habitats and their feeding range. ERG can help it.
