[Geese] Swan Goose at Mai Po boardwalk !!!!

This appears to be juvenile in good condition (although I did not see it in flight).  There are good photos which will hopefully be posted soon.  Thanks to the finders and thanks to Tung for the call!!

Sadly, I think that based on the photos this is clearly a domesticated Swan Goose and not a wild bird.  Structurally the bird is too upright, thick-necked and plain old fat for a wild bird.  I also cannot reconcile the wing structure with photos of wild Swan Geese as this bird appears to have really prominent greater coverts which wild birds do not appear to show.

I understand that this possibilty was discussed in the hide after i had left.

I had assumed that bill structure was the most significant feature to focus on (having looked at plenty of domestic Swan Geese over the years for this very reason) and felt that the bill on this bird was spot on.  However, that appears not to be the case.

A real shame as it looked very good at the time (with hindsight this waspartly because the body was obscured by Cormorants)and the date could hardly have been better...
