Rudong, Jiangsu 江蘇如東 9-2013

To most birders, major attraction of Rudong is undoubtedly the critically endangered Spoon-billed Sandpiper. In this visit, I was unable to take any photos of this bird as they were too far away. Meanwhile, I managed to see two of them clearly through a telescope.
Here are some photos taken during the trip :
The mudflat

At high tide, the shorebirds will stay in the ponds behind the dam.

It checked around this fresh clam carefully & tried several times to open it. Finally it succeeded & got the reward.

After a tasty meal, it was very satisfied!

When we tried to step closer to take some photos after watching it jumped from the tree above, it didn't try to escape from us ? I guessed there might be a prey under its foot.
