Mai Po 2011-03-08

Is it brown-headed gull???  I thought it was black-head gull in the begining, but I have doubt due to the broken eye-ring.  I'd be grad if anyone can give advice.

The pale iris color suggests Brown-headed Gull. Any better shots of the primaries?

Unfortunately this is the only photo showing a bit of its primaries... Thanks anyway.

The pale iris is diagnostic of Brown-headed Gull.  Well done, quite a rare bird these day!

The hood of Black-headed Gull is actually brown.

What made me take photo of this bird was the 'bigger' size & 'redder' legs than the Black-headed around.  At the same time, there was another one in similar size and legs around but I didn't take any photo.  Until home when doing photo editing, I found out the differences to the Black-headed.  

The second one could or could not be Brown-headed as I just judged based on its size.   

Hope this clarify.
