【60-year records update|Online edition "The Avifauna of Hong Kong" is published now!】

The first edition of "The Avifauna of Hong Kong" was published in 2001, covering all the bird records submitted to HKBWS over the span of 40 years up to the end of 1998. By then the number of species considered to have occurred in HK naturally stood at 448. Due to the valuable contribution of Society members, by the end of 2020 at least 100 species had been added to the list at an average rate of approximately five new species per year!

In response, we have begun uploading species accounts to the new online "Avifauna of Hong Kong" with an aim to upload all species by the end of the year and to keep it updated as far as possible in the future.

It summarises the status, distribution, habitat preferences, vocalisations and identification of all species on the HK List, which now stands at 575. Each species has photographs, most taken in HK, and links are provided to recordings of typical calls and song. Have a look at the online test version and feel free to let us know, if you have any comments or suggestions!

We have now published 75% of species, and hope by the end of the year to be close to 90%.

Please let us have any comments that might help us improve it.
