鳥巢的故事　A Nesting Story

去年喜鵲巢被毀之後，喜鵲夫婦又在原地重建家園，雖然這次沒有再被人摧毀，喜鵲太太可以在巢中呆了個多月，但是始終沒有所出，到五月底牠們還是離開了。

After the destruction of their nest last year, the magpies did make a second attempt. Mrs. Magpie stayed in the new nest for over a month but nothing came out. The pair eventually left by the end of May.

今天早上又見到喜鵲在燈柱上活動，下午便到那裡走一趟。
Having seen magpies again on the posts this morning, I did some investigation in the afternoon.

先遇到一隻非常大膽的，讓我我走到一米以內拍攝也若無其事。
This very tame bird was the first to greet me – it allowed me to take photos within 1m.

還表演倒頭喝水雜技！
and showed off its skill in getting a drink.

從台灣相思扯下枯枝，叼到燈柱上的平台──工程又開始了。
It pulled out twigs from the Taiwan acacia and carried them to the construction site.

但是那不是去年的燈柱啊，想轉轉風水嗎！
But that isn't last year's post – want a change in Fung Shui?

走到去年的燈柱下看看…咦！為何這裡也有工程？
But who is building at last year's site then?

忽然傳來一陣喜鵲叫聲，四隻鳥在遠處的草地上打作兩團。
Then came a bout of magpies calls – 4 birds were struggling at the far end of the pitch.

我趕到「現場」時勝負已分，四隻鳥正在休息，這時才留意到牠們體形大小有別，較健碩的兩隻相信是去年的一對，而較瘦小的兩隻則是新來客。
The ranks were settled by the time I arrived. Note the difference in body size. The stronger pair is probably there last year's couple, while the smaller ones are new comers.

兩對喜鵲分別回到各自的燈柱守候。
Each pair returned to their own post.

這個動作令我更加相信牠們是去年的原居民。
This reminds me of my old friends.

新人所佔的燈柱位置較差──這裡常有大嘴烏鴉出沒。
The post occurred by the new pair is inferior – it is the Large-bill Crows' favourite roost!

踏入狗年，喜鵲的故事又開始了，在此祝牠們好運吧！
So the Magpie Story starts again in the year of the Dog. Hope they have better luck this time.

今天早上用雙筒望球場，一看不得了，立即架起單筒開鏡。
Something at the playground this morning made me take the trouble to set up my digiscoping gear again.

一對麻鷹似乎也看中了喜鵲夫婦的舊巢位，在平台上把玩樹枝──那些巢材會不會是牠們搬來的？
A pair of Black Kites were playing with twigs on at the old Magpie nest site – could they be the ones who actually brought the materials there?

麻鷹夫婦心靈相通，時常選中同一枝樹枝或紙巾，銜在嘴中拉拉扯扯。
The Kite couple shared the same mind – they always picked on the same twig or tissue paper and seemed to enjoy pulling against each other.

麻鷹走後不久，喜鵲A夫婦（我當牠們是舊朋友了）回來，巡視了一下便離開了。
The Magpie As checked out the site briefly after the Kites have left.

現在也是麻鷹開始繁殖的季節，在家中也可以拍到麻鷹叼著「白旗」展示領域的情景。
A Black Kites showed off its white flag outside my window, reminding me that the breeding season has come.

下午又到球場一行，見到喜鵲A夫婦守在舊巢位。
I found Magpie As at the old nest site during my visit to the playground in the afternoon…

和守在球場對角的喜鵲B夫婦遙遙相對。
with the Magpie Bs on another post at the other end.

黃昏時分，喜鵲A夫婦親密地站在舊巢附近的燈上。
As evening came, Magpie As perched closely together near their nest site.

一對麻鷹忽然飛近牠們的巢，兩隻喜鵲馬上迎了過去…
Upon seeing a pair of approaching Black Kites, they dashed back immediately to the nest.

由於事出突然，來不及跑過去，只能從遠處拍了幾張，到走近燈柱時四隻鳥已全部離開了，誰勝誰負也搞不清。
Unfortunately, all that I could manage was a few long shots. I didn’t know the outcome because all birds were gone when I arrived.

等到下午六時許，四隻喜鵲又回來看巢。
The four magpies returned again at around 6:00 p.m.

兩隻白頸鴉飛來，好像想停在喜鵲B的燈柱上，但是很快便回頭飛走了，沒有發生不愉快事件。
Two Collared Crows approached the Magpie Bs but turned back. Nothing happened.

六時十五分，兩對喜鵲先後飛走，我也是時候回家了。
All birds left after 6:15 p.m., time for me to go home.

四喜臨門番外篇

狗年大年初三春節休假，偶正與親友、家人在酒樓午飯之際，突收到A導演來電，偶只說完一句：「恭喜發財...」

便即被平日寡言的A導演如滔滔河水缺堤泛濫式洶湧三百字截話：
「嘩，今朝，打到飛起呀！D喜鵲... abcd... 麻鷹又... ...」

正是，世事如棋局局新！

偶當機立斷，接下A導演的特急「通告」，取消休假，變身「場記婆婆」，伙同家人，披甲走赴「喜鵲故事」場地一看究竟！

A導演已然先到，觀察之下，故事果然錯縱複雜、曲折離奇、千絲萬縷、耐人尋味. ..

現時一對築巢麻鷹的身分，正在照片鑑證中！（懷疑是...）

下附今日珍貴場記圖片一張：A導演與喜鵲B合照！

（P.S. A導演，大年初三出特急「通告」，好該派大大封開工利是給場記發財大吉啦！哈哈～多謝～～）

急 Call 無非都是想讓你先睹為快，早日和久遺的老友相認，怎麼還要開工利是呢？

剪片需時，先認認是否你的鳶鳶寶貝吧！

哈哈，難得喜鵲與麻鷹故事「聯播」

，當然要大鑼大鼓，加喜添樂啦！

今天早上八時多才起，又見到麻鷹夫婦在舊巢位把玩樹枝，牠們在那裡出現的時間比喜鵲多，我開始懷疑究竟是「鵲巢鳶佔」還是「鳶巢鵲佔」。
Woke up at eight. The Kites were already playing with twigs on the platform. I began to wonder whose nest it was.

有麻鷹在，喜鵲A（先生？）只好靠邊站，靜靜地停在附近的燈柱上等候。
(Mr.) Magpie A had to wait at a nearby post.

等了一會，喜鵲便向體形比牠大得多的麻鷹挑戰。
The Magpie then charged at the Kites.

雖然麻鷹號稱猛禽，但是動作緩慢，其中一只見到喜鵲來勢洶洶，竟然飛到圍欄上暫避。相比之下，喜鵲要勇猛得多，在牠們之間左穿右插，就像小霸王。
The Magpie is a more agile fighter than the slow moving Kites, one of which was even forced to take refuge on the fence.

十多個回合之後，平台上已經沒有麻鷹了，但是喜鵲卻只是檢視了一下巢位便離開了──真不明白，辛苦和麻鷹大戰一番，難道就只是為了看看而已？
The Magpie took the platform after a few minutes. But all it did was to have a long around and then left – why it took so much trouble?

喜鵲走後，麻鷹又回來安靜地繼續造巢，就像沒有發生過任何事一樣。
The Kites soon resumed peacefully as if nothing had happened.

這次一對喜鵲不打了，雙雙站在一旁觀看…
This time, the Magpies just watched from a distance…

等到麻鷹走後才偷偷回巢檢視──會不會是摸清了麻鷹的習性，懂得省回打架的功夫？
and sneaked back after the Kites have left – so they now know that the Kites would leave?

不過…？會不會是因為剛才有太太在場，不便動粗呢？
However…? Or was it because his wife was there last time?

下午又到球場觀察，衝突仍未平息。
The heat was still on when I visited the playground in the afternoon.

麻鷹時常檢一些白色紙巾或破布回來放在巢中，有時又會銜在嘴中在附近盤旋，就像是要向其他同類示威。
The Kites kept bringing back white fabric to the nest. Sometimes they would keep it in the bill and flew around, as if to brandish it before other kites.
