Organization introduction:
Founded in 1957, The Hong Kong Bird Watching Society (HKBWS) started as an ‘ornithological society’ and has developed to an environmental organization devoted to promote appreciation and conservation of wild birds through research, habitat management, environmental monitoring, conservation advocacy and education. HKBWS’ goal is to protect the bird paradise where people and birds can live in harmony and nature continues to thrive. HKBWS works both locally and internationally to conserve birds and nature and is a member of Birdlife International, the East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
HKBWS is a registered charitable organisation in Hong Kong under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance.
Job Description:
- Promote bird watching and nature conservation to our members and the public.
- Develop, coordinate, organize and promote bird and environmental education activities for schools and community groups.
- Assist in coordinating and delivering membership activities including birdwatching tours, classes, workshops and talks.
- Respond to public or organization enquiries.
- Handle administrative duties, including application management, activity evaluation, bookkeeping and others.
- Report to Assistant Education Manager and perform any other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Passionate birder with a strong commitment to nature conservation.
- Bachelor’s degree in ecology, life sciences, environmental science, geography or related disciplines, with 1-3 years’ working experience is preferred.
- Experience in environmental education, including tour guiding and workshops.
- Proficient in oral and written English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Mature, self-motivated team player capable of working independently and under pressure.
- Good judgment and problem-solving skills in conflict management.
- Physically fit for outdoor activities; flexible with irregular hours.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- First aid certification is a plus.
