Founded in 1957, The Hong Kong Bird Watching Society (HKBWS) started as an ‘ornithological society’ and has developed to an environmental organization devoted to promote appreciation and conservation of wild birds through research, habitat management, environmental monitoring, conservation advocacy and education. HKBWS’ goal is to protect the bird paradise where people and birds can live in harmony and nature continues to thrive.  HKBWS works both locally and internationally to conserve birds and nature and is a member of Birdlife International, the East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).  

HKBWS is a registered charitable organisation in Hong Kong under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance. 

Job Description:

• Manage internal and external communication of the organization.
• Draft media statements, answer media and public inquiries, compile publications, manage online communication channels and publication projects, plan events and press conferences.
• Develop and implement communication strategies which include media outreach, social media content and advertising.
• Acquire detailed knowledge of the organization’s policies, principles and strategies, and maintain up-to-date with relevant developments.
• Develop and adhere to the organization’s branding guidelines
• Support and evaluate results of communication campaigns.
• Build and maintain relationships with media, associations and partners.
• Collaborate with Development Officer to support fundraising campaigns.
• Report to Deputy Director and perform any other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, public relations, marketing or a related field
• A minimum of 2 years’ experience in communication strategy development, social media management or marketing
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator
• Experience in social media content creation preferred
• Experience in SEO preferred
• Experience working in NGO preferred
• Interest in nature and conservation essential
• Strategic, creative and outgoing personality
• Recognize HKBWS’s vision and mission

HR & Admin Assistant (Part-time)

Job Description:

• Handle HR admin, payroll, MPF, and employee record/system updates.
• Maintain HR and admin policies and ensure office compliance (records, licences, insurance, safety).
• Oversee office administration and inventory management.
• Support onboarding/offboarding and liaise with staff and vendors.
• Perform other ad hoc HR/admin duties.
• Report to Deputy Director
• Work pattern: 2-3 days/week

Requirements:

• Associate Degree or above in HR, Business Admin, or related fields.
• Minimum 3 years’ HR/admin experience, preferably in NGOs or SMEs.
• Knowledge of HK Employment Ordinance and MPF regulations.
• Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word).
• Good command of written/spoken English and Chinese.
• Detail‑minded, responsible, efficient, self‑motivated; strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Recognize and support HKBWS's vision and mission.

Research and Habitat Management Intern (Shui Hau)

Overview:

Work with HKBWS staff on ecological surveys, habitat management and bird ringing, gaining hands‑on experience in fieldwork, data handling and activities coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with ecological surveys and related fieldwork
• Support bird ringing activities
• Participate in habitat management and education activities in Shui Hau, Lantau Island
• Handle data entry, sorting and analysis
• Provide photo sorting support
• Report to the Research Team and perform other assigned duties

Requirements:

• Interest in ecology and birdwatching
• Good command of English and Chinese (Cantonese & Putonghua)
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Self‑motivated, mature and able to work independently
• Physically fit and able to work irregular hours
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• First aid certification an advantage

Habitat Management and Education Intern (Fishpond)

Background:

Since 2012, the Hong Kong Fishpond Conservation Scheme has worked with local fishpond operators to enhance ecological value while supporting sustainable livelihoods. Alongside habitat management, the Fishpond Team delivers tours, workshops and exhibitions to promote wetland conservation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in coordinating and delivering education activities (eco‑tours, workshops, talks)
• Handle enquiries from the public and organizations
• Sort research data, camera trap materials and photos
• Support administrative tasks including applications and activity evaluation
• Report to the Fishpond Team and perform other assigned duties

Requirements:

• Strong interest in nature conservation
• Studying ecology, life sciences, environmental science, geography or related disciplines
• Strong communication skills in English and Chinese (Cantonese & Putonghua)
• Good judgement and problem‑solving skills
• Physically fit and flexible with working hours
• Proficient in MS Office
• Experience in environmental education an advantage
• First aid certification a plus

Eco-brand Building and Marketing Intern (Fishpond)

Background:
“Catch For Spoonbill” is HKBWS’s new eco‑brand promoting bird‑friendly aquaculture through partnerships with local fishpond operators. The project integrates conservation, sustainable fisheries and community engagement, giving consumers a way to support local conservation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support brand building and marketing for Catch for Spoonbill
• Assist in producing promotional materials (digital content, posters, packaging text)
• Manage social media content, engagement and basic analytics
• Help organise promotional and outreach events
• Coordinate with fish farmers and partners to gather stories, photos and product information
• Assist with partner liaison and tracking sales/distribution leads
• Report to the Fishpond Team and perform other assigned duties

Requirements:

• Student or recent graduate in marketing, communications, business or related fields
• Interest in conservation, eco‑branding or sustainable food systems
• Strong written and verbal communication skills (English & Chinese)
• Experience in social media content creation preferred
• Basic graphic design skills (e.g., Canva, Photoshop)
• Outgoing, proactive and comfortable engaging with the public
• Able to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends/evenings
• Proficient in MS Office; knowledge of simple CRM or email‑marketing tools is a plus
• Event or sales experience an advantage

Habitat Management and Education Intern (Ho Sheung Heung)

Overview:

Work with HKBWS staff on ecological surveys, habitat management and education activities near Ho Sheung Heung, gaining practical experience in fieldwork and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with ecological surveys and fieldwork
• Participate in habitat management and education activities
• Support planning and coordination of public exhibitions
• Handle data entry and record management
• Report to the Ho Sheung Heung Team and perform other assigned duties

Requirements:

• Interest in ecology and nature education
• Good command of English and Chinese (Cantonese & Putonghua)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Mature, self‑motivated and able to work independently
• Physically fit with flexible working hours
• Proficient in MS Office

Education Intern

Overview:

Support HKBWS staff in delivering school tours, family programmes and public events, including outdoor fieldwork, activity coordination, birdwatching facilitation and basic data handling.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in designing and delivering education tours
• Support family programmes including materials preparation and guiding
• Provide on‑site logistics support (set‑up, registration, crowd management)
• Assist with collecting feedback and survey data
• Enter Sparrow Census 2026 data and related records
• Report to the Education Team and perform other assigned duties

Requirements:

• Strong interest in environmental education and birdwatching
• Good command of English and Chinese (Cantonese & Putonghua)
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Mature, responsible and able to work independently
• Physically fit with flexible hours
• Proficient in MS Office
• First aid certification is a plus
